ನಂಬ್ತ್ರಿಯೋ ಬಿಡ್ತ್ರಿಯೋ ಅದ್ ನಿಮ್ಗ ಬಿಟ್ಟದ್, ಆರೆ ಈ ಬೈಸ್ಕಂ ಕೆಲ್ಸ ಇತ್ತಲ ಅದ್ರಶ್ಟ್ ದಡ್ ರಗ್ಳಿ ಇನ್ನೊಂದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅಪ್ಪ ಅಬ್ಬಿ ಎಯ್ಡ್ ಕೊಟ್ರೆ ತಕಣ್ಲಕ್ ಅದ ಬಿಟ್ ಬಯ್ಯುಕ್ ಸುರು ಮಾಡ್ರೆ ಅಲ್ ಕೂಕಂಬ್ಕೆ ಎಡಿದೋ ಎಡ್ಯ.
ಬೆಂಗ್ಳೂರ್ ಅಪ್ಪ ಅಬ್ಬಿ ಬೈದ್ರೆ ಎಶ್ಟ್ ಬೈತ್ರ್. "ನಿನಗೆ ಕರೆಂಟ್ ಬಿಲ್ ಕಟ್ಲಿಕ್ಕೆ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದೆ. ನಿನ್ಗೆ ಇನ್ನು ಟೈಮ್ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಲ್ಲ ಅನ್ಸುತ್ತೆ. ನಿನ್ಗೆ ಒನ್ದು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಕೂಡ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಅದು ಯಾವಾಗ ನಿನ್ಗೆ ಬುದ್ದಿ ಬರತ್ತೋ ಎಲ್ಲ ನನ್ನ್ ಕರ್ಮ". ಇದನ್ನೇ ತಿರ್ಸಿ ತಿರ್ಸಿ ಹೇಳುದ್ ಬಿಟ್ರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಎಂತ ಬತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ ಅವ್ರಿಗ್. ಆ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಕೇಂಬಶ್ಟ್ ಕೇಂತೊ, ಕಡಿಕೆ ಎಂತಾರು ಸುಳ್ ಹೇಳಿ (ದೋಸ್ತಿ ಮದಿ, ದೋಸ್ತಿ ಮನಿ ತೊಳ್ಸಿ ಪೂಜ, ಸ್ಪೆಶಲ್ ಕ್ಲಾಸ್. ಯಾವ್ ನಮನಿ ಸುಳ್ ಎಲ್ಲ ಬೇಕ್, ಯಬ್ಯ ಎಲ್ಲ ನಮನಿ ಯಾಸ ಇರತ್) ಕಾಪಿ ಡೇ ಅಗೋ ಇಲ್ಲ ಪಿಜ್ಜಾ ಹಟ್ ಅಗೋ ಕೂಕಂಡ್ ಹಂಚಟ್ ಹೆಕ್ತಾ ಇರ್ತೋ. ಅವಕ್ಕೆ ಹೀಂಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ಬೈದ್ರೆ ತಾಂಗುದಿಲ್ಲ.

"ಎಲ ಹೆಕ್ಕ ತಿಂಬುದೆ, ನಿನ್ ಸೊಡ್ಡಿಗ್ ಇಶ್ಟ್ ಅಕ್ಕಚ್ ಹಾಕುಕೆ. ಆಚಿ ಮನಿ ಗಂಡ್ ಹತ್ ರುಪೈ ಗೆ ನಾಕ್ ಬಂಗ್ಡಿ ತಕ ಬೈಂತ್. ನಿಂಗ್ ರೋಗ್ವ ಹದ್ನೈದ್ ರುಪೈ ಗೆ ನಾಕ್ ತಕಬೈಂದ್ಯಲೆ. ಕಿಚ್ ಹಿಡ್ದನೆ ಕೊಟ್ರೆ ನಾಕ್ ಬಂಗ್ಡಿ ಒಬ್ಬನೆ ಹೊಜಾಳ್ಸ್ ತೆ, ಕೊಟ್ಟದ್ ಪೂರ ದುಡ್ಡಗ್ ಮೀನ್ ತಪ್ಪುಕ್ ಎಂತ ರ್ವಾಗ ನಿಂಗೆ. ಹಪ್ಪ್ ಹಿಡದ್ದೆಲೆ, ಹೀಂಗೆ ಮೀನ್ ತಪ್ಪುಕೊಟ್ಟದ್ ದುಡ್ಡಗ್ ಬೆಲ್ದ್ ಉಂಡಿ, ಆಮ್ಲೆಟ್ ತಿನ್ಕ್ಂಡ್ ಹೋರ್ ಬಬ್ಬರ್ಯನ್ ಕಂಡಗ್ ಜೀವ್ ಬೆಳ್ಸ್ ಕಂಡಿದೆ. ಕಾಂಬುಕ್ ಹ್ವಾಂತ್ ಮಂಗನ್ ಕಂಡಗ್ ಇದ್ರು ನಿಂಗೆ ತಿಂಬುಕೆ ಹೋಟ್ಲ್ ಐಟ್ಂ ಆಯ್ಕ್. ಮನಗೆ ಮಾಡದ್ ನಿಮ್ ಹೊಟ್ಟಿಗ್ ಹೋತಿಲ್ಲೆ. ನಿಂಗ್ ಇನ್ ಎಯ್ಡ್ ವರ್ಷ ಹ್ವಾರೆ ಮದಿ ಮಾಡ್ಕ್. ಮದಿ ಆರ್ಮೇಲು ನೀ ಸಮ ಆತೆ ಅಂದೆಳಿ ನಂಗೇನ್ ಬರ್ವಸಿ ಇಲ್ಲೆ. ಅವ್ಲ್ ಬಳಿ ಮಾರ್ಕಂಡ್ ಹೋಟ್ಲಗೆ ಉಂಡ್ಕ ಬಪ್ಪ ಮರ್ಯದಿ ಸತ್ತನ್ ನೀನ್"
"ಓಡತ್ ಎಲ್ಲಿಗ್ ನೀನ್ ನಗ ನಾಚಿಕಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟನೆ, ನಿತ್ಕೊ ಅಲ್ಲೆ" ಅಂದೇಳಿ ಆ ಗಂಡಿನ ಬೆರ್ಸ್ ಕಂಡ ಹೋಯ್ ಆ ನಾಯ್ ಓಡ್ಸುಕ್ ಇಟ್ ಕೋಲಗೆ ಒಂದ್ ಕೊಟ್ಟಳ್ ಕಾಣಿ ಈ ಲೋಕದ್ದಲ್ಲ. ಗಂಡ್ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಇಡೀ ಮರ್ಕ್ತೆ ಮನಿಕಂತ್.
ನೀವ್ ಅಂದ್ಕಂಡಿಪ್ಪುಕು ಸಾಕ್, ಗಂಡ್ ಈಗ ಸಮ ಮೀನ್ ತಕಂಡ್ ಹೋತ್ ಅಂದೇಳಿ ಅಲ್ದ. ಇಲ್ಲಪ, ಹಾಂಗೆಲ್ಲ ಆತಿಲ್ಯೇ. ಅವ ದಿನ ಬೆಲ್ದುಂಡಿ ತಿಂತ ಅಬ್ಬಿ ದಿನ ಬೈತಳ್. ಎಶ್ಟಾರು ಬೈಯುದ್ ಅಬ್ಬಿ ಅಲ್ದ, ಅದನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಲೆಕ್ಕಕ್ ತಕಂಬುಕಾತ್ತ!!!!
ಕಂಡ್ರ್ಯ ಯಾವ್ ನಮನಿ ಎಲ್ಲ ಇತ್ತ್ ಕಾಣಿ ಬಯ್ಯುಕೆ. ಇಶ್ಟೆ ಅಲ್ಲ ಇನ್ನು ತುಂಬಾ ಇತ್. ಆರೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ಇಲ್ಲ್ ಬರುಕ್ ಆತಿಲ್ಲಾ!.

Delicacies of Kundapur – Vol 1

I love food. Being a complete foodie, I love trying out delicacies when I visit any place. When I visited Kundapur, I had the pleasure of trying out so many delicacies, you won’t believe it! Most of these delicacies are everyday delicacies. They’re common in every household of the coastal region. However, some delicacies are specially made during festivals such as Deepavali, Hosthu and Thulasi Puja. Fish is common in every house. After trying most of these dishes, I found that there is one common factor connecting them all. Most of them are baked with very little use of oil which makes these dishes highly nutritious! Even the ingredients used are very common place and organic in nature. Here’s a list of everyday delicacies and special delicacies. What are you waiting for? Go ahead, indulge yourself!
The most common, everyday delicacy is Neer Dosa (Theli dwasi - ತೆಳಿ ದ್ವಾಸಿ). Dosa as you know is made from a batter of rice and urad dal (ಉದ್ದಿನ ಬೇಳೇ). However, Neer dosa is exclusively made with just rice batter. The rice is soaked and ground into a fine (extremely fine) thick paste. The batter is then left overnight to rise (ಉಬ್ಬುದ್). There is a special tava to make neer dosa and the technique used is also very unique. Let me explain. The thick batter is mixed with water just enough to make the batter watery. Once the tava is hot, it is then sprinkled on the tava. The baking method is the same as a dosa. The sprinkling, you have to see it to believe it! The neer dosa is then served hot with yummy coconut chutney. It is absolutely mind-blowing with chicken sukka/curry. This delicacy is usually had for breakfast. You can have it for lunch too with chicken or fish curry.
I forgot to mention earlier that I have a sweet tooth. I’m not going to wait any longer to introduce this next yummy delicacy. It is a sweet dish called Shekkit (ಶೆಕಿಟ್). This sweet dish is also made with rice. You have to soak rice and then grind it in a grinding stone. However, you have to be careful while grinding it. You cannot use too much water. It has to, has to be thick, more dough like in consistency. This requires a filling which usually consists of a mixture of grated coconut, jaggery and ground cardamom. The rice dough is then made into small rice balls and spread on a single turmeric leaf. That’s the specialty of this dish, the turmeric leaf. The health benefits of this are immense. It is then filled with the filling and then baked. It is made specially for Deepavali. It is served hot and usually is an evening snack. You’ll notice there is absolutely no oil used in this dish! So healthy!

The moon was always used as a reference in almost all the literature of the world as something that was unattainable. It has been epitomized as an object of utter beauty, silence and romance. For poets, the moon was always the unyielding lover who would never come down to embrace her partner on earth. Well, well! If that’s a minute part of the story, read on to know more about other interesting facts of this beautiful celestial object!
The Moon was formed by a collision with our planet about 4.5 billion years ago. It was so large that a huge spray of material was thrown into space. The orbiting ring of debris gathered itself into a sphere and formed the Moon. This sphere is 1/4th the diameter of the Earth and comprises of only 17% of the gravitational power of the earth! Nevertheless, it is the second brightest object in the sky after the Sun.
The Moon's surface is about the same now as it was 3 billion years ago which is a major contrast to the earth. And it is the only extraterrestrial body to have been visited by humans.
The Moon was first visited by the Soviet spacecraft Luna 2 in 1959. So far, only 12 people have stepped onto the surface of the Moon. The first person to walk on the Moon ever, was Neil Armstrong. And the last person on the Moon was Eugene A. Cernan who followed his partner Harrison H. Schmitt into the lunar lander on December 11, 1972.
The Moon may look like a huge ball of cheese! Unfortunately, it’s not made of cheese, though we see numerous holes, small and big on the surface of the moon. The surface of the moon is scarred with millions of these holes called ‘craters’. These are formed when collisions between an asteroid, comet or meteorite and the Moon occur. These hit the Moon with a wide range of speed, averaging about 12 miles per second (20 kilometers per second).
Now this object of beauty may be under threat for some obvious reasons like global warming being the main cause. I would like to take a moment to say that we as humans have caused much damage to nature on the whole which in turn is taking its toll on various things, of which the moon could be on the hit list, apart from the extinction of animals, melting of the ice caps, etc.
The most obvious changes to the moon noticed across the globe is, its color. In some parts of the world it turns red, in some, orange and in some blue! According to research, this is caused due to the high concentration of dust and smoke particles in the air caused by us humans with our ever growing needs. So, here’s a gentle reminder for all the generations to come, to help the moon survive. So that our future may see the moon and not be disappointed!!
As Emmanuel G. Mesthene puts it rightly, “Ten years ago the Moon was an inspiration to poets and an opportunity for lovers. Ten years from now it will be just another airport”.
Udupi, Santhekatte, Brahmavara, Sasthaana, Saligrama…Kota…
Right Right! And thus starts the journey. When traveling to the coastal side of Karnataka, one hears a familiar ring of these places. It is a feast for one’s senses. Lush green paddy fields, a blessing to the sore eye. You see the coconut and areca nut trees swaying in the strong yet light sea breeze making you want to throw your cares to the wind. The smell of the sea intoxicating the nostrils. Oh! what joy one feels! It dawns a realization to let go and enjoy what befriends the eye.
There is something special about each of these places. The Ashta Mathas, Yakshagana, the infamous Udupi masala dosa are a few specialties of Udupi. Bhramavara is the relay center of Mangalore AIR. Saligrama houses the famous Guru Narasimha temple.
Coming to Kota, we have the famous Kannada writer, novelist and Yakshgana exponent, K. Shivaram Karanth who hails from this place. The beautiful Amritheshwari temple stands the test of time and is the pride of one and all at Kota.

Namma Maneyangala – a place that reminds me of the laughter of children playing under ever so watchful eye of the elders.
